Just thinking about writing this blog makes our heads spin!
It seems as though there is a new diet being touted every day. Whether it’s how to lose weight fast, how to keep weight off, or how to feel better overall, there’s a plethora to pick from and it’s overwhelming to even think about where to start.
So how do you know which one is right for you?
We have some advice that might be just what you’re in need of.
1.DIET ALERT! There’s NOT a One-Size-Fits All.
Are you sad about this, too?
Probably one of the most biggest misconceptions we come across is the idea that one diet is the cure-all for everyone to lose weight and to lose it fast. That’s how diets are marketed, so why not think that?
Well…each of our bodies and lifestyles are different. We each have different genetic makeups, values, habits, and careers, and environments that apply to how well a certain diet may work for our individual health.
For example, a 50 year old woman who has a desk job and drives an hour to and from work everyday may find more success with a diet geared toward a more stationary lifestyle than a 30 year old woman who is on her feet all day as a nurse and runs 5 miles each night after work.
THE KEY IS…to find what works best for you. Find what is sustainable!
How to do that?
It may not be easy, but it can be worth it. Try a certain diet for 1-2 months and keep track of
your results. How did you feel? Is it sustainable? Did it help you reach your goals? If not, try a new one.
Realistically, you should see a weight loss of 1-3 pounds per month. Hint, hint…this is what will keep off the weight (even though we know you may be a little impatient with this!).
Yes, this may take some time. Yes, it may take a lot of time. But wouldn’t it be worth it to stop
“dieting” once you find the right “diet”?!
2. The Most Important Diet? Here’s Our Take.
Remember how we just said there is not a one-size-fits-all? Now take that concept and simply ADD VEGETABLES.
What do we mean?
We find the best diets are those that work for an individual while getting in the most vegetables (and making them taste good!). We know that vegetables provide oodles of nutrients, help flush the body of toxins, and
can help fight and prevent illness and disease. By making these colorful elements crucial in your diet, you’ll be doing your body a world of good. Keep this in mind when selecting the diet you choose.
3. Wondering How to Get Started & Keep Going? Let’s Do It.
The thought of starting a new diet can bring hope and a refresh to our lives. We imagine how we are going to feel, the results we are going to get, and the new person we are going to be.
But how do you kick yourself into gear and get started?
Define your goals – is it to lose weight? to kick a sugar habit? or maybe train for an event?
Research options – search online, find apps, read books, ask around and see which diet(s) may fit YOUR goals
Pick one and stick with it for one month – record your weight loss, your cravings, the changes in your tastebuds.
Some options to select from may include (but are not limited to):
– Whole30 Diet
– Fast Metabolism Diet
– Pegan Diet
– Blood Type Diet
– Intermitten Fasting Diet
You may find that one of these, or another, worked well for a month! Fantastic! But what about after that?
We suggest: An 80/20 Diet
For 80% of your week, eat healthy – lots of vegetables, whole foods, lean protein, or whatever diet you have found to be sustainable and healthy for your body. For the additional 20% of your week, enjoy some flexibility! Yes, have a bite of dessert. Sip a glass of wine. Have that latte!
It’s okay if you have to do some math! This can be a realistic way to continue to eat healthy yet still enjoy some of life’s indulgences!
