Hormone Balance Testimonial:
From 2007 to 2011 I was struggling with a severe hormonal balance issue. Actually it started around age 13. In my early 20’s, the only help I was offered was a birth control pill called Orthotricyclen. That medication worked fairly well to manage my symptoms until 2007. At age 33, something shifted. Either my hormones or the medication. For my 30’s, I was miserable. In pain every day, often times I’d rate it at a 7+. Over those years I went through more tests and spent more money than I can even track at this point. I struggled quietly, had numerous trips to the E.R., tried over 15 different kinds of medication, went on allergy-free food diets, tried countless herbal remedies. My relationships with friends and family suffered as I quietly tried to hide the pain. I went from hiking every weekend to being doubled over on the couch. I sold my kayak thinking I’d never feel good enough to lift it off of the top of the car, let alone paddle it! I was told I had a slew of chronic conditions. In the end, I was told that a full hysterectomy was the only option and would offer a 50% success rate. I was also told that I should go on antidepressants to deal with my frustration. I was told these things by the top specialist in the region under my insurance company. In 2011, my sister suggested acupuncture. I walked away from my scheduled surgery and into a Dr.’s office in Englewood Colorado. I found some answers and some relief there. In 2012, I went to my regular OBGYN and found out I was pregnant. Something I was told was completely out of the question for me!
Endometriosis
The pregnancy went well and the year after, 2013, things were great … until the end of that year. All of my symptoms came back. It was worse than before. Much worse. I was told that I most likely have Endometriosis and that it was likely causing problems in my intestines, bladder, and they suggested it could even be in my lungs. I was having fevers and vomiting from the pain of ovarian cysts that were apparently bursting. Or so they thought. The problem was that no diagnosis could really be made without, at least, exploratory surgery. And even then, they might not be able to confirm the issues due to the way Endometriosis manifests and monthly hormonal shifts.
Finding Dr. Graves and Colorado Natural Medicine and Acupuncture
At this point I had moved to the Castle Rock area and had a 1 year old daughter. I turned again to acupuncture and was beyond relieved to find a local Dr. here in town. Dr. Graves not only listened to my struggles but also jumped in and started doing his own research. After all of the medical personnel I had talked to over the years, I was very jaded and weary. It was so refreshing to feel like someone was really on my side. We started my therapy in May of 2014 and by the fall I was almost pain free. I hadn’t felt that good for 7 years. 7 YEARS! It wasn’t an overnight fix and I didn’t expect that. It took time, tweaking herbal supplements, changing our approach a few times, and patience. In the late fall of 2014, we added in a Progesterone cream and the remaining pain was gone.
