What is Holistic Functional Nutrition?
For nutritionists, there is an emerging new specialty within the field of nutrition called Functional Nutrition. Similar to Functional Medicine, a practitioner of holistic functional nutrition addresses the underlying or root causes of dysfunction in the body and the nutritionist seeks to restore balance from within.
Functional Nutrition takes into consideration the complex interaction between nutrition, environmental and lifestyle factors, genetics, and their effect on your health. A holistic functional nutritionist acknowledges and respects the unique biochemistry of every individual. As such, each client protocol is customized to the unique needs of the individual.
To determine a client’s particular needs, the functional nutritionist will conduct a Comprehensive Health/Nutrition Assessment – an in-depth review of their Goals & Health Objectives, Health History, and Diet & Lifestyle. If beneficial and appropriate, the nutritionist may suggest additional functional/diagnostic laboratory testing. An example of this is a Micronutrient Panel. This lab measures and evaluates the levels of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, metabolites, and antioxidants in the body. It also assesses carbohydrate metabolism and immune system/antioxidant function. Functional laboratory testing such as this helps to further customize and fine-tune the client’s nutritional and supplement recommendations.
The heart of Functional Nutrition is a client-centered, collaborative partnership of practitioner with you. The nutrition practitioner is there to educate and empower the client take ownership of their health and find restoration and healing.

My Philosophy of Practice
I acknowledge and respect the unique biochemistry of every individual. I believe in a personalized approach to nutrition without any one perfect diet. I have a passion for empowering people to achieve optimal health through nutrition and movement.
I am a Certified Nutrition Therapist from the Nutrition Therapy Institute in Denver, Colorado. My education was primarily administered by practitioners of functional medicine, which is why I was drawn to Colorado Natural Medicine and the work of Dr. Adam Graves. Functional medicine addresses the underlying or root causes of dysfunction in the body and seeks to restore balance from within. My approach to nutrition comprises functional medicine strategies, evidence-based testing and research, and customized protocols specific to the needs of the individual.
I believe optimal health is a culmination of health in all areas of life – mind, body, and spirit. Part of that equation is movement. I am a Polestar Pilates educated Pilates Instructor and also a Certified Cycling Instructor. My career in nutrition and fitness was born out of my commitment to both, and my sincere belief that both are necessary for optimal health.
I believe that living a life of purpose is a choice. “If you can imagine, or believe in a reason for your life and choose to let your understanding guide your actions, then by definition you are living a life of purpose.” – Ben Michealis, PhD Based on this premise, I am building a nutrition and movement practice consistent with my passion and life purpose.
