5 Tips for a Spring Detox

Spring Detox diet 2019, how to detox, detox ideas, colorado natural medicine and acupuncture

As nature begins to come out of its shell and prepare for new growth, it’s the perfect time for us humans to do the same.

After hibernating throughout the winter, enjoying comfort foods, and a few times of binge watching our favorite shows, spring is a wonderful opportunity to shed our old ways and welcome in the new!

If you are finding yourself inspired by the extra hour of daylight, the warmer weather, and the glimpse of green you are beginning to see (or just feeling it’s time to start fresh), then we encourage you to check out our following 5 tips for an easy spring detox:

 1.  Reduce Your Exposure.

Everyday, we are exposed to harmful chemicals – many within the confines of our own homes. These dangerous toxins are known as endocrine disruptors which disrupt our hormones by mimicking estrogen.  They can have alarming effects on our health such as weight gain, infertility, and cancer, just to name a few.

This toxic load that we come in contact with everyday can add up, which is why spring is a wonderful time to reduce or eliminate as many synthetics in our homes as possible.

Some products that may have harmful toxins are:

– lotions

– cleaning products

– perfumes

– plastics

– pesticides

– air fresheners

– laundry detergent

as well as many others.

We recommend switching out any synthetic products with ones that do not contain dyes, perfumes, BPA, and plastics.  Instead, opt for naturally derived plant products, glass or steel containers, and essential oils.

2.  Clean Up Your Diet.

Remember all of those chemicals in your home we were just talking about?  Well, your diet can be just as full of harmful toxins as well. The more processed our food becomes, the more chemicals and pesticides we typically ingest.

Try a 21-30 day detox diet, eliminating all processed food, sugars, and dairy to reset your diet and clean your system.

To do this…

– create a day by day meal plan

– pick a day/time to meal prep each week

– write down your triggers and what you will do to avoid them

– take a look at your kitchen cabinets and clean out unhealthy foods and drinks

– look at restaurant menus online and decide what is the best option before you arrive or pick a different restaurant

– keep a daily or weekly journal of how you feel throughout the detox in order to be mindful of progress

– share with others if need be to seek support and encouragement

3.  Optimize the Body’s Natural Detoxifying Pathways.

The body has four main pathways to detoxifying itself naturally. How great we were built this way!

By supporting these organs, we can work towards quicker and more efficient detoxification.

Skin – sweat it out!  Vigorous exercise, saunas, and infrared yoga are all great ways to detox through our skin.

Liver – take a Liver C™ by Mountain Peak Nutritionals®, milk thistle, beet root, and B Vitamins to aid the liver in the detoxification process.

Bowels – not only do the liver supplements support the liver, but also the bowels with proper bile levels. Include plenty of extra fiber as well to help flush out toxins.

Kidneys – hydration is key! Increase stomach juices and continue to flush the body with plenty of water, water with lemon, and green or white tea.

4.  Take a Mental Detox.

Have you noticed how much our culture is overstimulated by digital media? Because of it, our brains can seemingly never get a break to reset and before we know it, we are full of anxiety and stress. We feel more and less connected at the same time!

Overstimulation of digital media can lead to:

– trouble focusing

– sleep issues

– foggy thinking

– irritability

– sense of unhappiness

in addition to many other issues such as anxiety and depression.

By consciously taking a break from certain (or all) digital media for a certain amount of time, we can work on relaxing our minds and shifting our focus to being present.

Start by turning off all electronics for meal times and progress to limiting them throughout the entire day.

5.  Rid the Stress.

Sure, we can’t get rid of stress completely but we can try to detox from some of it.  If we don’t let it go, it can build up and cause mental and physical health problems, so no time is better than now to manage it.

Try the following to detox from stress:

Acupuncture – get balanced again! Allow your mind to regroup, refocus, and reenergize through acupuncture and relax muscles with cupping

Movement – walks, hikes, workouts, yoga, stretching, and sports

Massage – therapeutic massage to cleanse the lymphatic system and relax tension

Meditation – apps or classes, aim for a minimum of 5 minutes per day

Reading – dive into a new book!

Tea – enjoy a cup or white or green tea on the way to work, throughout your morning, or even for an evening treat instead of dessert

Baths – opt for a warm bath with epsom salt and enjoy the feeling of stress melting away when the water drains from the tub

Supplements – for extra support, try Adrenal Response® by Innate Formulas 2 times daily for adrenal and cortisol support or Integrative Therapuetics® Lavela WS 1265™ or CBD oil for immediate stress relief.
