At Colorado Natural Medicine & Acupuncture, we’re intentional about the practitioners we bring onto our team –  not just for their technical skill, but for how they listen, adapt, and support the healing process as a whole.

We’re excited to introduce Joshua Henkels, Licensed Massage Therapist, whose approach blends deep anatomical knowledge with compassion, intuition, and respect for each client’s unique experience.

Joshua Henkels completed his massage therapy training at the Colorado School of Healing Arts in Lakewood, CO, and brings a wide range of techniques to his work –  always guided by how the body presents in the moment.

Thoughtful, Individualized Approach to Bodywork

Joshua Henkels approaches each session with the understanding that no two bodies –  or days –  are the same.

“I approach each one of my clients with compassion and care. It is an honor to facilitate healing and growth in another human,” he shares. “Each client is a unique expression of anatomy, physiology and multiple layers of soul and emotion.”

Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all technique, Joshua Henkels listens carefully to both the client and the body itself, tailoring every session to how the client is feeling and responding in real time. His goal is to create a space where clients feel safe, grounded, and supported –  physically and emotionally.

“My wish is that every client who lies on my table feels safe, heard and relaxed,” Joshua Henkels says. “Every client should leave feeling empowered and in a more natural state of being.”

Techniques and Specialties

Joshua Henkels offers a broad range of modalities, allowing him to adapt sessions based on pain patterns, injury history, activity level, and overall nervous system tone. His specialties include:

He is especially passionate about working with clients who carry long-standing holding patterns related to trauma, overuse injuries, or physical strain –  including student athletes and individuals recovering from injury.

“Unwinding the puzzle that causes holding patterns in our physical bodies is definitely a passion of mine,” he shares.

Respectful Integration of Energy Work

Joshua Henkels is thoughtful and intentional when it comes to energy work. He does not incorporate it into sessions unless a client specifically requests it.

“It is my belief that energy work is sacred,” he explains. “The client needs to consent to and be willing to receive such work in order for it to be beneficial.”

When energy work is requested, Joshua Henkels ensures both he and the client are fully grounded and present before beginning the session.

A Personal Connection to Healing Touch

What Joshua Henkels values most about massage therapy is the opportunity to create a space where clients can reconnect with their bodies and better understand how physical sensations and emotions are connected.

“I honor the opportunity to provide a safe and sacred space for my clients to learn about and become more aware of their physical sensations and emotions,” he says.

One of the experiences that continually reminds him why he does this work comes from working with his teenage daughter, a competitive softball player. By observing changes in her gait and using myofascial and Anatomy Train principles, Joshua Henkels has helped facilitate release in areas of tension –  often without working directly on the painful spot.

“The most exciting part is when she tells me about an area that is tender, and I use Myofascial Meridians and Anatomy Train principles to facilitate the release of those areas, without even working that area directly,” he shares.

Life Outside the Treatment Room

Outside of the clinic, Joshua Henkels enjoys gold prospecting, mountain biking, hiking, and spending time outdoors with his dog. He also cherishes time as a “bucket dad,” running drills and watching his daughter play softball.

For self-care, Joshua Henkels prioritizes regular bodywork, Reiki, meditation, prayer, and ongoing study of metaphysical principles and ancestral spirituality. Time in nature remains an important grounding practice for him.

Why Joshua Henkels Joined CNMA

Joshua Henkels was first introduced to CNMA as a patient of Dr. Adam Graves.

“I have always been rooted in Naturopathy and Holistic Healing,” he says. “When my path shifted and I was afforded the opportunity to begin my own career facilitating natural healing, I jumped at the chance.”

He sees his role at CNMA as one more supportive option within a collaborative care model.

“We are each unique in our approach and ability, but all have the health and wellness of our clients at heart,” Joshua Henkels shares. “It takes a village.”
