After a winter of warm, cozy, comfort food and indoor snuggling,

is it time to rid your system of unwanted build ups through a good detox?

Following nature’s guide, spring is a perfect time of year to cleanse the body of toxins and get it in tip top shape for summer.  However, many of us can feel anxiety just thinking about what a “detox” may consist of.  If a bathroom isn’t close by we may think we can’t do it.  But that’s not necessarily the case!

We are discussing three simple ways to detox that are gentle and healthy!

  1. Support Your Liver.

Your liver is responsible for detoxifying and metabolizing what you eat and drink so if you’ve been indulging over the winter it can be a good time to support this organ in ridding your body of toxins and chemicals.

To do this, try:

– Dandelion: pick it in the wild or buy in the produce section and add to smoothies or salads

– Milk Thistle, Dandelion Root, Chicons, Burdock, and Berberine supplements

– Liver C™ by Mountain Peak Nutritionals® (one per day for 1-2 months)

– Liver Cleanse by Thorne® (one per day for 1-2 months)

  1. Fast.

Fasting may seem foreign and intimidating, but it can actually be quite easy!

An intermittent fasting diet consists of time restricted eating that gives the digestive track a break.  It may attribute to longevity and can support healthy metabolism, blood pressure, and insulin levels in addition to allowing your system time to rest and restore.

It is flexible, depending on what works best for you, with many choosing the 16:8 (16 hours of fasting followed by eating within the next 8 hours) or similar, one or two days a week or even everyday.

  1. Come Out of Hibernation.

Take cues from the animal kingdom, follow the seasons, and get out of winter hibernation!

Getting outside, particularly with movement, can do wonders to cleanse our physical and mental health.

Forest bathing, another way of saying “taking in nature through our senses” can help us disconnect from technology and the stress of daily life while helping ground us.  By using our senses to notice our surroundings, it can be a wonderful way to refresh.

Want to try it?  You probably already have and can continue to with:

– hiking

– biking

– walking

– journaling

– meditating

or any other practice that allows you to take in the natural beauty around you.

And if forest bathing isn’t your thing, find something that you do enjoy and take it outside.  It’s a great time of year to break out the tennis racket, kayak, and running shoes!

If you live in Castle Rock, Castle Pines, Lone Tree, Highlands Ranch, Centennial, Parker, Larkspur, Monument, Colorado Springs, or the greater Denver metro area and would like to talk to Dr. Graves more about cleansing options, please call us at (303) 688-6898 or click here to schedule a complimentary 15 minute phone consultation with him

Don’t let the idea of a spring cleanse scare you.  It doesn’t have to mean days spent in the bathroom while your body flushes everything out.  These three options are easy ways to rejuvenate your body and mind in gentle and kind ways.
