10 Things to Know About CBD
1.CBD will not get you high.
Marijuana is comprised of different cannabinoids – two of those are CBD and THC. THC is the cannabinoid that has the affect of “getting high”. CBD is the cannabinoid that promotes relaxation and has anti-inflammatory effects.
When THC is taken out of the product, the remaining cannabinoid of CBD can have many beneficial health effects.
2.Some CBD products are now 100% THC free and derived from hemp-based cannabis, which make them completely legal in the United States.
If you’re worried about a drug test, traveling, government service, etc. that would notice trace amounts of CBD, these new products provide a THC trace-free option that are legal in the United States.
Make sure the product you are using has been reputably tested as 100% THC free before using if this is of concern.
3.CBD creams can be a very safe and effective health supplement for pain.
For those dealing with pain from such chronic issues as arthritis or acute pain such as a pulled muscle, CBD creams can provide muscle relaxation and decrease inflammation. This makes them a powerful alternative to prescription pain medication for many people.
4.CBD oil can promote calm, relaxation, and stress-reduction.
To decrease anxiety and/or stress, CBD oil has properties that calm the nervous system. Its relatively quick calming effect (typically within 5-60 minutes) can be helpful in many stressful situations.
5.CBD can help with sleep.
For those having trouble falling asleep and/or staying asleep, CBD can help with both. While relaxing the nervous system and helping calm the brain, these products work to promote healthy sleep.
6.There are a variety of CBD products to choose from.
CBD comes in many forms such as:
– oil
– cream/ointment
– vapor
– edible
– capsules/pills
Creams and ointments may provide on-the-spot treatment to a certain area or muscle while oils and capsules can promote a responsive overall relaxation for the nervous system.
7.CBD is not regulated so do your homework.
Because CBD is not a drug, it is not regulated by the FDA. This means that it is important to research the CBD you are considering and to ask Dr. Graves which products are reputable as well as the recommended dosage for what you are using it for.
8.CBD is not addictive.
CBD does not have “getting high” effects, which makes it non-addictive. For some people, it may actually help fight addictions of other substances.
9.CBD can be taken daily.
Depending upon the strength of a CBD product, most can be taken 1-2 times daily.
10.CBD has little known side effects.
While we always recommend talking to a doctor about taking CBD while on medications, CBD on its own can have little to no side effects. Most common can be the feeling of nausea or fatigue.
Make sure to discuss with Dr. Graves or your primary care doctor about any possible interactions with current medications you are taking.
