“The Reality of Being a Mom Today” – Part 1 of 4
Our culture is not necessarily set up successfully for healthy emotional and physical health. Dr. Graves talks honestly about typical ways moms are currently coping with today’s stressors (many you may connect with), and 3 things you can do right now to change your perspective and gain grounding.

The following was written by a mom, Kristy, whom you first met in the intro video to this series:
How does it feel now that you’ve heard a doctor acknowledge the reality of being a mom in today’s world? Any of your guilt ease a bit? How about any internal questions or fears?
When I first heard recognition from Dr. Graves of how difficult it can be to live up to our own and others’ expectations of being a mom today, I felt a weight lifted off of my shoulders. To have someone acknowledge that it can be hard at times, that I have done more for others than myself, and that I have lost who I am in the process was a new perspective for me that put importance on my internal feelings and emotions. For the first time, it wasn’t just me feeling guilt or shame for not being or doing enough.
After meeting with Dr. Graves, I began his 3 recommendations for starting to find peace as a mom. I’m still working on it everyday, but what a change it has had thus far! As a recap:
1. Be Honest with Yourself and Others. There is NO SHAME in the way we feel.
2. Let Go of Outside Things. True, authentic happiness is found within. Be careful not to look for it in things outside of ourselves.
3. Disregard the Belief that Your Happiness Depends on Others’ Happiness. Ensuring everyone else’s needs and happiness comes first is a quick way to stress and anxiety. Make sure you’re happiness is top priority.
Can we agree to encourage each other to do these things? Let’s get started!
